What choices are out there & what are the most accurate AND compact ones please? For my 2008 Subaru Forester XT turbo - that guzzles 13 litres/100 km city consumption with Premium gas, hence about 17c to 20c Canadian per km @ Ottawa, Canada prices!

I have one of these on my new car, but I don't put too much faith in it.

Have you seen the BlueTooth gadget they sell at RadioShack that hooks up to your car?

This week I bought my ScanGuage 2 from Gifford's Automotive in Ottawa, Canadian distributor, for CAD$170 including HSTaxes.

After compute tuning for better consumption by renowned Tonik Tuning here in Ottawa, my l/100 went down by 1, from 13.6 to 12.6 l/100 in city. On my long drive to Toronto @ 90 kph my XT averaged 8.8 l/100 km, nice.

Plus my acceleration is smooth & less demanding. Which I can feel through my shoeless right foot! Oilpan4 was right about our cars needing to be tailor-tuned to US.

Thank you, oilpan44 & jes. I'll get a ScanGuage 2 after my 1,000 km highway return trip from Ottawa to Toronto next month (OCT), so I'll have a year of city & hwy stats to which to compare post ScanGuage measures.

That is the other thing tools like the scan gauge can do, they can show a downward trend that could turn into a problem.
The scan gauge is less than $100. It could easily pay for its self with fuel savings of by preventing a break down.

I been using the scangaugeII for several years. I recently used it to verify a failing Fuel Injection Control Module. If I did not replace the FICM before complete failure, I could of been stranded out on the road, and likely would have hammered some of the fuel injectors.

Here is the link to the Scan Gauge web site. This item does a whole lot more than just tell you your fuel consumption. I have one & it's a neat toy.

Its good that some of you are going over to ecomodder.com.
On that forum there are people that know you can alter your vehicle to get better fuel economy.
Where on this fuel economy forum too many people have been brain washed into thinking their vehicle left the factory configured for the best possible economy and it would take teams of engineers and millions of dollars in research to produce a tiny fuel economy improvement.
Too many automaticly believe every fuel economy boosting modification is a scam.

"These items are 99 percent scams and will take your money willingly".
The "scan gauge" is not a scam. It is simply a tool and it does not change the way your vehicle runs, the idea for it is to change your driving style.

ecomodders.com recommends the scan-guage. Many of the scanners that you can buy aftermarket will supply some of the needed information and contrary to the second they are not scams. Without some kind of instant feedback on fuel economy it is difficult to alter driving habits for the best fuel economy.
