Leave it as it is. The value of GB is to find the best price to fill up, and prevent stations to be honest.

Don't change a thing on the point schedule, although I wouldn't mind if the awards from the apps were available to view on the site.

The points structure has been the same since the early days of the site in 2001. While I am a new member, I don't think it would be fair to original members to change the point structure now. In any case, reporting gas prices and using GB as a tool to find cheap gas is the primary objective; the points are just for fun and are fine the way they are.
I suspect that having the "awards" for the apps was an attempt by GB to give members more "points" stuff. It was a bad idea and has caused problems with improper reporting of gas prices.

heyjude, here's a tip, post for the full 975 points every day, plus the 100 points for the weekly poll, and watch those bad boys add up!
Then you have a better chance of winning what there is!

we should get 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000...points every time we make up random piece of nonsense that causes other people to laugh. Quick, someone post something funny, click your heels together three times and hope for the best!!

"why are there pictures of the station on the site?" invites the question, why not? In some cases, it makes the station easy to identify or find, in most, it is just another piece of information that can be added.

I don't know that, if that happened, anyone would be clamoring "Houston, we have a problem." For an advertising perspective I understand why the website would prefer to have as many members as possible.
However, from a member's perspective, if the people that left because they didn't get points for posting one word, one number, or one widget or one sentence comments here anonymously, that opened (for points) but didn't read the news articles, etc., we'd probably be left with just those people that joined the website for the purpose of posting gas prices in return for learning the gas prices perhaps just outside their immediate or regular drive posted by other website members. I don't know that that would such a bad thing.

I encourage you to not upload any pictures. I find them worthless and believe they simply slow down the loading of station data I actually want to see.

Should be "paid" for posting a picture? Give me a break. I've been posting since August 2004, never missed a day and I am happy to do it because posting prices HELPS OTHERS. When hubby was on the road, GB was the greatest tool we had in getting cheap prices for gas.
Why should you care that much about points when you've left so many behind?

pilotmass: "When we post prices we get points and help buddies. Posting a pic helps so we should be "paid" for it."
How does "posting a pic" help? And, as you already said that when you post prices you "help buddies", isn't that enough of a reward, helping the other person and the other person helping you?
Is your time and efforts that self-important that you have to be "paid" for everything you do? Even if you're already receiving free information from a website? Are you willing to pay Gas Buddy for their service to you?

You all know if we just had a points catch up day once a month, that would solve all the issues with new threads about points. Just post 6 fuel prices on the first Monday of the month and you will be given the same amount of points (to make you equal) as the current all time point leader.

If you are in Seattle you should get points for drinking "Seattle's Best" coffee, not Starbucks - it is terrible.

kwzh: "Now, if we're lucky, this topic will get buried before it starts to collect random clutter from everybody else who also has an idea about points."
Bad idea all around! Best idea: Start a NEW topic every time someone has an idea about getting more points.

Okay; before this topic gets buried, as kwzh hopes it will (and as it should), let me offer a "New Point award idea".
I think, in the vein of pilotmass's suggestion, that if you post a suggestion for points, "you should get more points. 100 Pts IMHO" (the quotes being pilotmass's words).
Better yet, we can go one step further, if you post a suggestion for points and the moderators don't take your suggestion, thereby denying you the opportunity to earn points (say, for uploading a photo of a gas station), you should get more points for being denied the right to get more points. Perhaps "100 Pts IMHO".
Seriously, this topic should have been closed before I posted the above inane suggestions. If it had been closed before I posted the above inane suggestions, nothing would have been lost from the discussion.

Or, kwzh, we could come up with more totally absurd ideas to earn points like I should get points for waking up every morning.

As soon as I saw "New Point award idea", I was pretty sure it was going to be a bad idea. Now, if we're lucky, this topic will get buried before it starts to collect random clutter from everybody else who also has an idea about points.

By the same token, if you fail to upload a photo of a gas station, you should get deducted 100 points per day.

Even assuming that this would be a one-time points award - because if not, some people would continually post the same picture of the same gas station multiple times - what's the value of uploading a photo of a gas station? First, do you generally check the photos already posted for gas stations? Would the photo influence your buying gas at a particular gas station. And what would be the benefit of posting photos of a gas station for the majority of Gas Buddy members.
Said another way, a website improvement suggestion should have value for the website; other than providing points for a limited number of members, what would be the value of the photo posting? I would think that, as more stations have reduced their operating hours, there would be value in posting the hours the station is open, but I don't see that being a points award idea (nor do I think it's worthy of points).
Just my opinion, that's all. Just my opinion.
