cheri1016, if you see either type of bogus price post, please replace it with the correct price ("0" if that fuel isn't offered at all), and if it's a repeat offender, then send a report to the moderators using the internal message system (click on the Inbox icon at the top right of any page).

Jerks reporting bogus prices for diesel when its not even offered really peeve me off! Ralf86 did just that in Wooster Ohio recently! How bout the a--holes that report a price, then assume mid & prem are 10ยข more each. If you dont know a price, don't report it!

I hope that also applies to stations that don't supply premium or diesel, although some posters keep reporting that, too (all of course, in $0.10 increments, irregardless of fact)!

PD just reported over at:
Talk Back to Us: Cheaters/Abuse
That the posting of prices will soon only allow grades marked in the MSL, eliminating the bogus posts.

A long outstanding suggestion that would substancially reduce the problem would be to only display the grades that are "checked off" in the MSL for that station. That way only those types of fuel the station sells would be available for updates. The current method that displays premium, mid, regular and diesel regardless if a station actually sells them.

I have stopped zeroing out bogus diesel prices. I prefer to stuff the mods boxes with abuse reports. I figure there a several easy solutions to this problem, the most obvious, quickest and sure fire one being eliminating the app awards, but there are others. Reports of abuse no longer lead to people getting banned (the mods should be less tolerant of abusers if they are getting such a large increase in price reporting, not more tolerant). So why should I as an unpaid volunteer care more than the paid staff about the data on their system?

When you do zero out a price, remember to use the comment field or address field to explain your reason for doing so. ("Doesn't sell diesel" is adequate.) Also, if you keep track of who are the repeat offenders, it might help to report them.

Yes, zeroing out obvious errors is acceptable practice. For that matter, it's correct and appreciated practice.

As annoying as it is, I do purchase diesel weekly for a work truck, for now I make a mental note of the posted stations that I've stopped at that in fact don't have diesel pumps and avoid them. Is zeroing them out acceptable practice?

This suggestion has been included in the Suggestion Tracking List as a new topic about an existing subject.
There is no formal way of interlocking reporting with fuel types and grades listed in the Master Station List (yet). If you report a station, you can include "No diesel here" or something similar in the comments of the report. That is something you would do if you did a $0.00 price report to zero out someone else's report.
After you get to 10K points and have access to the MSL, you could place "No diesel here" in the station comments, but that would be not effective for two reasons: 1) if they won't read the station's features, they are not likely to read the comments, either and 2) the station comments won't show up outside of the MSL for other's benefit.
Until interlocking is accomplished by GB, we must police ourselves by zeroing out improper prices. If a member consistently misposts, you can send a PM (click Inbox at upper right) to a moderator and let him handle it. Or first, you can put in a Buddy Request and try to communicate with him directly by PM or via his whiteboard.
As always, if having difficulty with a local problem, seek help from other members in your local discussion category of the forum.
