Left lane is safer to drive in as no trucks and no merging traffic. Want to go faster pass me on the right. As far as I see it both of us are breaking the law. I am traveling in the left lane and your speeding.

I'll always wait for the left lane traveler to move over...UNLESS the vehicle has a New Jersey plate...Then I know that vehicle will not move over no matter how long I wait. The drivers instruction course in NJ must have a different lesson about the left lane.

@tomeboy... YES slower (speed limit too) drivers need to move over... those people who dont move over are only way because they only care about themselves not having to be bothered by actually driving. congrats on going the speed limit -- now get out of the way!

A few travel safely filling in the spaces on the right when possible... and allowing those in a "hurry" to travel by "safely" and uninterrupted.
My response: I don't think hurry (speeding) and safely... go hand in hand when it comes to driving on freeway's and highway's. Allowing those in a hurry (law breaking speeders) to travel by safely and uninterrupted. That is ridiculous!
So speeders have exclusive right of way to the left lane? To travel safely (speeding is safely?) and uninterrupted (exclusive left lane use if you are a speeder)?
Really... So speeders who occupy the left lane the full length of their commute are exempt from... "Keep right except to pass?" So someone driving the legal speed limit must move over for the speeder so he can continue uninterrupted... speeding? Why would a speeder(exceeding "legal" speed limit) have more legal right to the left lane than one who complies with the "legal" speed limit? Do speeders get special exemption? Aren't we encouraging speeding? The ones who comply with the law are supposed to make way for the law breakers! That sounds backwards.
PD wrote: Perhaps its time we cut down on those who simply occupy the lane with no intentions of passing. My Answer: If they are driving under the legal posted speed limit and there are two or more lanes of traffic going in opposite directions that makes sense. By all means they should drive in the far right lane.
What about the people who are driving at the legal posted speed limit or (illegally up to 5 MPH over the speed limit) and there are two lanes of traffic going in opposite directions? For me personally, driving in moderate traffic on freeway's or highway's that have two lanes going in opposite directions... I will drive mainly the left lane. Reasons... to avoid traffic entering and exiting on the right. Also to avoid the slower drivers in the right lane. Not everyone can drive/ occupy the right lane on a two lane freeway or highway during moderate traffic and especially heavy traffic.
OK now... So I'm in the left lane of a two lane highway along with some other drivers and their cars and we're driving at the posted speed or slightly above and there is moderate traffic. Another car rapidly approaches my car from behind driving at 10 or more MPH over the speed limit. OK... slower traffic is supposed to keep right... but I am at or slightly above the legal posted speed limit and going faster than the traffic to my right. So now the guy behind me who is driving exceedingly fast supersedes me and the other drivers in the left lane? So were supposed to move over to the right into the slower traffic so this excessive speeder can continue in the left lane uninterrupted?
Why have speed "limit" signs posted then? Excessive speeders have right of way over other drivers who drive the legal speed limit or slightly above? Doesn't make sense to me. Isn't that encouraging others to break the law.
We have speed limits posted for a reason. We have all heard the slogan... "Speed Kills"

My biggest Complaint too! This is the quickest way to give me road rage. Nothing infuriates me more than people cruising in the left lane. I find you cruising in the left lane I'll give you a chance if you don't move over I'll flash my lights if you still don't move over I'll honk, and so help me if you stay in the left lane, because my next move is right around you. The only thing is I don't just move on I'll slam on the breaks right infront of you and force you over. I like the idea behind the autobond. It is hard to get a license there because you are actually required to know the laws of the roadway. I think the whole problem is that we give out licensees like they are candy on Halloween. They also don't worry about speeds because they actually regulate how drivers drive.
hatfig2 wrote: "I'll slam on the breaks right infront of you and force you over."... That's called reckless driving and if the other driver forced off the road... were to roll their vehicle or hit an obstruction to avoid hitting your car and died... that's "Vehicular Manslaughter."
If this road rage maniac can't control his emotions... then he needs to have his car keys taken away... his car impounded and his license revoked. Using his car as a weapon by slamming on his brakes and trying to force another driver off the road is incomprehensible!!
This guy is obviously a law breaker in many ways... tailgater, speeder, coercion by flashing lights and honking horn, and reckless driving to name a few.
A motor vehicle is capable of causing extensive property damage, injury, and death. Driving is a Privilege, Not a Right!!... You have to drive safely, obey the traffic laws, and respect the rights of other drivers.
Speed Demon hatfig2 wrote: "I like the idea behind the autobond. They don't worry about speeds." Ahh... but they do. On average, more than half of the total length of the German autobahn network has no speed limit at all, about one third does have a permanent limit, and the remaining parts have a temporary limit for different reasons.
hatfig2... U.S. freeways, highways and roadways are not the German autobahns. You might want to consider relocating to Germany if you like to drive fast. Traffic laws and enforcement on German autobahns.
Forcing slow drivers on the left-hand lane to change lane (even if they are occupying it illegally), for example by flashing or tailgating, could be considered coercion and is best avoided.
Due to legal regulations (Straßenverkehrsordnung) it is legal to flash(not flashing) headlights (Lichthupe) in order to indicate the intention of overtaking, but a proper distance to the vehicle in front must be maintained. Driving at insufficient distances and "constantly or repeatedly flashing headlights" are also considered to be coercion and the driver can get fined. In severe cases, this might be regarded as a crime and the driver may be arrested and face a court trial where they can be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
hatfig2 own admission to road rage: My biggest Complaint too! This is the quickest way to give me road rage. Nothing infuriates me more than people cruising in the left lane.
Don't be a jerk... your car is a lethal weapon. DRIVE AS IF YOUR LIFE DEPENDED ON IT... cause it does, and the lives of others as well. If you cannot control your rage, GET HELP!! Understand that you can't control the traffic, only your reaction to it.
