This says it all: "What's new in the Oil Patch? Let's see now -- not much. No new refineries, no change in supply, little or no change in demand, animosity of producing countries the same or worse.
Yet prices have dropped by more than one-third. From $3 a gallon and over to a low here recently of $1.96. The one thing that is new is the November elections when Big Oil supporters are in trouble of not being re-elected.
Could it be?"

I think it may stay around the $50 to $55.00 range if people shop around and conserve. The stations are competing like never before to get your business. The larger stations were always .10 to .15 cents higher than the no names and now they are about the same. If we conserve gas, shop around and go to the best price in town it will keep the competition going and prices down. By The Way: Lets keep the politics out of this. We are all trying to help each other out and save not start the he should have, could have, would have. Just my two cents! Thanks!

december futures are in the $60-$65 range so that's probably what we'll endure unless we go messin' with Iran or something major happens then that $100 barrel isn't so out of the ballpark.

Radarluv, I gather you're a Democrat, and that's fine, but do you really think things would be any different if John Kerry had been elected? They wouldn't.... it's supply and demand and the OPEC cartel that drives prices.

Anyone who thinks the prices will NOT go up after the elections is a Republican that voted for the Oil People, Bush and Cheney...Some people NEVER learn!!! We had high inventorys while gas was $3.00 ! We will have high inventorys at the end of the year and watch, $100 a barrel! Glad I have a lot of wood to burn!!

$75++++ right after elections, then higher no matter who wins. The fuel cell is right around the corner but we will let the Japanese beat us to it to. No guts no glory. I also stated along time ago nuclear would be my best choice, a never ending safe energy if designed properely. We lead the world in that, lets go.

Gas/Oil prices run in cycles and I believe we are at the low end and it will go up by the end of the year. Good time for oil heater people to buy their oil! I don't think OPEC and the oil exporting countries are going to let it get much lower - good reason to figure out how to conserve and utilze alternative energy!

Dancin, that is what they said would happen if we got sustained prices above $50/bbl just a few months ago. There is a point at which this will all happen, but I don't think we know just where that point is.

I hope it is not above $75 US per barrel, or recession will be right around the corner. The economy cannot sustain such a level, as non-discretionary heating fuels so up corresondingly. In the absence of real wage gains by the average worker, the disposable income comes from somewhere; usually discretionary spending, ie. restaurants, sports tickets, appliance purchases, etc. Let's hope for sustained lower prices, but don't bet on it longer term.

EcRocker, but what if my Toyota SUV is built right here in town and is employing my neighbors?
Bashing others for their personal choices all seems rather silly to me. This is a free country, and people make their choices for their own reasons. Some may wish to buy American and keep their local mechanics in business while others may wish to buy Japanese and keep their money from going to OPEC.
You pays your dime and you takes your choice.
Is this a great country, or what?

Runn on MT, I had a Nissan Sentra MPG that got 42mpg around town and 58mpg on the highway, and could seat 5 adults comfortably. The technology is there, and the cars would still be built if there was a market for them.
If the present desire for better mileage instead of more power persists, the high mileage cars will be back.

As long as people conserve the price may seem reasonable. An improvement in US car manufacturing would help. The old Model-T got 25 mpg nearly a hundred years ago, so let's get real.
