I ALWAYS have in both my cars, as roadside emergency kit. It contains jumper cables, flares, tire patch and other necessities just in case.

Well, yes I keep almost all of what's mentioned, but one thing that isn't mentioned and I consider the most important is a fire extinguisher.

I've never had an emergency worse than a flat tire on the road so I've always practiced changing a tire with every new car I buy and then try to keep the tire-changing equipment and spare well maintained. Of course, these days, I have a cellphone with me too.

My primary vehicle is a Toyota Tacoma truck. In addition to my cell phone, I always have a set of jumper cables and a heavy-duty tow chain (approx. 10-12' long). I also carry a few 'standard' tools (sm. hammer, screw drivers, pliers and an adjustable wrench).

Since I am 70 years old, live alone, have congestive heart failure, hyperparathyroidism and am on blood thinners I carry a cell phone on me at all times just for emergencies. Personally I HATE cell phones because most persons who use them are generally rude, feel very self-important and seem to never turn them off and use them in areas where signs are posted asking persons not to use their cell phones. In addition I have had just too many near crashes because of drivers using their cell phone while they are driving - especially when they are making left turns off a street onto the street where I'm either stopped for a traffic light or they are driving toward me and don't notice my car. I don't even give my cell phone number out to my friends. I use it only for making outgoing calls. The only calls I accept to me are call made to me on my regular landline telephone.

Mee too JCool~ so i went with other - they should have had an all of the above because "the most important" item depends on the current "emergency" you're experiencing!

C'mon jcool2525 An empty gas can is as useless as screened windows in a submarine. If you travel in very rural areas, late at night, where gas stations are not found on every corner, carrying fuel in the trunk is a safety measure. It is illegal to carry fuel in the passenger compartment, not in the trunk if so equipped.

I carry everything that's on the list except for extra fuel. It's illegal to store gas inside the car. An empty fuel container is all right.

My cell phone, since the demise of the CB radio, by far is the biggest help to call AAA (which is also a good thing to have on hand). When driving my toy cars, which are 20+ years old, I carry a tool box wth a few replacement parts.

The bad thing is they don't have a "all the above" box cause in both me truck and my small sedan I carry the TOP 6 on that list and I live in a city.

When I lived in the Rockies it was definitely the mountain bag & blankets, but now that I'm in a less outback environment, it's my cell phone.

I want to think I'd change a tire if needed--but honestly, would probably call for assistance--so might need the option to vote a tie for cell phone/tire eq.

I think I am the only one who posted warning devices such as flares etc. To answer cell phones is a wasted vote since 99.9% of people carry one IMO. If you have ever been broke down on an interstate with cars whizzing by at 75 mph, you will want flares or triangle reflectors that truckers use. p.s. I am not a trucker but they know road safety.

I answered jumper cables but they are part of a whole power station with a compressor to put air in my tires and a light. It's about the size of a gallon of anti-freeze, maybe slightly bigger.

I voted "Tools", but IMO most of the other choices could fir into that category. And I'm surprised what the #1 choice is. Kind of points out how things have changed.
