No, I was able to fill up at a station that was selling gas for 10cents a gallon less than other local stations and came up to the cottage!

Holiday weekends are often time for Family gatherings - we feel the importance of time with Family outweighs the price of gas to get there & back, however, we do try to lessen other less important trips & also try to purchase/fillup gas where prices are more affordable whenever possible. Cking prices online actually helps us & is greatly appreciated!:)

Panama19, you're probably right in the long term, but in the short term a lot of the gas price increase is due to speculators bidding up futures contracts.

Oldsalt73, I think it is a common error to personalize the global marketplace. There are no executives arbitrarily deciding what price the unwashed masses will have to pay; it is like blaming the auctioneer for setting the price of goods at auction too high.
The public has a hand in setting the prices by their choices of vehicles and how they choose to use them. Our politicians have a hand in setting the prices by regulating and taxing the oil industry; and the public picks the politicians. All taxes and regulations on the oil industry are paid for at the pump.
It is tempting to place the blame for high prices on others, especially on the rich and powerful, but the real cause of the problem can be found in the mirror. The rich and powerful only get one vote apiece like everyone else, and there are far more of us than of them.
Fortunately, the market works automatically whether we understand it or not. The high gas prices have caused us to alter our choices in more efficient ways, which is the remedy for high gas prices.

If The President is running the country and the country is not running very well....lets see, who should we blame? Duh, the presdent who is suppossedly in charge! Get real people. We put our trust in the government who is suppossed to look out for the welfare of the people in this country they are running. The people are not running the country, the politicians are. So it seems to be obvious who is to blame. In any institution the person running the show is obviously the one who gets the praise or the blame. Simple. Presdient Bush is the worst thing that happened to this country. Can't wait for Hillary.

No, I will not cut back my driving during the Memorial Day Week End. The reason is because I always stay home on major hollidays due to the increased risk of getting into a vehicular accident at those times. So, I can not drive less than my normal no driving on hollidays!

Come on, GasHawgs, you know that the dimwit Libs refuse to take personal responsibility for anything and need to blame SOMEONE! I think I'll blame Bush for the stupidity of the supervisors I work with, and for the moles easting the roots on my roses. And perhaps for all the rain we've had in the last week, as well. Let's see, what else can I blame Bush for.......Me getting up late this morning, the weeds in my yard, the neighbors dog tearing up my compost pile, my bread going moldy............

We are staying home. The road goes the same direction to inlaws as it would for them to come down here 340 miles one way. We are saving for a short trip later on. As for blaming Bush, this goes on with all Presidents not only him. I have others to blame besides him. BIG FAT OIL COMPANIES AND CEO AND THEIR RETIREMENTS.

Not going to drive for Memorial Day. I have a wedding in San Antonio next weekend and a family reunion two weeks after that in Corpus Christi. Those "family" occasions are much more important to me than a "splurge" for Memorial Day. In fine southern tradition, maybe I'll visit the Houston National Cometary and pay tribute to the Veterans to whose memory the day is dedicated.

If America wants lower prices, the only way is to cut back demand and let inventories build. Drive less this weekend. Drive slower to get where you are going. Don't idle.

All presidents, including Bush, get more credit when things go right and blame when things go wrong than they deserve. Kind of like a corporate CEO

"Im staying home all weekend, thanks to Bush"
What? Did you get a leter from the President ordering you to stay home?Bush bashing and blaming him for everything has become comical. Let me know when Bush controls the free market so I can blame him too. So far on this very board, Bush is responsible for Katrina, Oil Prices, and Gas Prices (Including those in Canada). I can't wait for the next catastrophic event in this country, so I can see him get blamed some more. This is better than the comic strips.

I will be traveling the same as last year for Memorial Day. The gas would have to go much higher or my income drop before I would cut down on my traveling. I am thankful I do not have to commute to work every day. I work from home and stores are close enough to walk to or ride a bicycle to. Don't get me wrong. I do not like paying high prices for gas.

Looking at overall Ontario gas prices, it appears to me that people should consider moving to the Brantford/Brant County area as the prices here appear to be 2 to 3 cents a liter lower than the rest of the province. Doing day trips to visit out of town family simply requires a fill-up before leaving and therefore does not require cutting down on any driving or visits.
